FREDDY AWUZIE COMMITTED TO CANADORE

NORTH BAY, ON – The Canadore Panthers men's basketball program is excited to announce the commitment of 6'1", 195-pound guard Freddy Awuzie, who joins fellow incoming guards Samuel Poliquin and Andrew Bell as part of Coach Bill Crowdis' backcourt recruiting class.

Born in South Africa and raised in Scarborough, Ontario, Awuzie brings a unique combination of strength, toughness, and versatility to the Panthers' backcourt. Throughout his basketball career, he has earned multiple MVP and All-Star honours while competing in the NPH, NSC, and various U.S. leagues. Awuzie attracted interest from several OCAA programs, before choosing Canadore MBB.

"I'm excited to join Canadore and be part of building something special," said Awuzie. "Born in South Africa and raised in Scarborough, basketball has helped shape who I am both on and off the court. I pride myself on being a versatile player who can defend, make plays for teammates, and create my own shot when needed. More than anything, I'm excited to bring my work ethic, competitiveness, and team-first mentality to Canadore and help contribute to a winning culture."

Awuzie's ability to defend multiple positions, create offense, and play with physicality makes him a valuable addition to the Panthers' roster. His strength and competitive nature provide a different dimension to Canadore's growing backcourt.

"Freddy is a powerful, physical guard who plays with tremendous toughness and competitiveness," said Head Coach Bill Crowdis. "He brings a football mentality to the court. He attacks the paint, gets to the free-throw line, defends at a high level, and makes winning plays. What really stood out throughout the recruiting process was his work ethic and team-first approach."

Crowdis believes Awuzie complements the program's other incoming guards and helps establish the identity the Panthers want to build.

"Along with Samuel Poliquin and Andrew Bell, Freddy rounds out a very strong and versatile recruiting class in our backcourt. Each player brings something different, and together they give us toughness, leadership, skill, and competitiveness. Freddy's physical style and willingness to do the little things make him an important piece of what we are building at Canadore."

Awuzie will join the Panthers for the 2026-27 season as Canadore continues to build toward sustained success within the OCAA.
